The geography of Taitung County includes the Coastal Range in the east part and
the Green Island and Orchid Island in the Pacific Ocean in the east. The Central
Mountain is in the west neighboring Kaohsiung County and Pingtung County. The
Huatung Gorges range from the north to the south of Taitung County which is 172
kilometers in length. Taitung County together with Green Island and Orchid Island
is 3515 square kilometers which amounts to one tenth of the geographic area of
Taiwan.
